BEARING CAPACITY ASSESSMENTS

GT Geotechnical are capable of providing bearing capacity assessments to confirm founding soils are suitable  for safely supporting structural loads from structures, plant and temporary works. Using a combination of insitu testing and engineering analysis, we give designers, builders and contractors reliable allowable bearing pressures, so foundations can be designed with confidence and built without costly repairs or delays.

Plate Load Testing

Plate Load Testing is one of the most direct ways to measure the bearing capacity and stiffness of soils and compacted fill. A steel plate is loaded in increments while settlement is recorded, giving a measured load-settlement response at the test location. Plate load tests are commonly used to verify working platforms, pavement subgrades, footing founding levels. they provide high confidence test results where design loads are significant, or the consequences of failure are high.

Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) Testing

The DCP is a fast, cost-effective test for assessing the strength and consistency of near-surface soils. We use DCP testing to estimate allowable bearing pressures and to identify soft or loose layers. It is also used to check the uniformity of ground conditions across a site. DCP testing suits residential footings, retaining wall foundations, pavement subgrades and working platforms and it can be done quickly on sites with limited access.

Footing and Foundation Inspections

Our engineers can inspect footing excavations, pier holes and founding levels during construction to confirm that ground conditions match design assumptions. Where conditions differ from expectations, we provide prompt on site advice, so construction can continue with minimal disruption to programme.

Fast Mobilisation and Turnaround Times

Bearing Capacity Assessments are often required at short notice, particularly when founding conditions are uncertain or construction is underway. GT Geotechnical can mobilise to site quickly and deliver results promptly to keep your project on schedule.
