MOURA SEWERAGE TREATMENT PLANT
GT Geotechnical was engaged by Banana Shire Council to undertake a detailed geotechnical investigation at the Moura Sewerage Treatment Plant to support planned remedial and underpinning works to existing infrastructure.
Our scope focused on characterizing subsurface conditions, developing a site-specific ground model, and identifying geotechnical risks relevant to the long-term performance of the facility. Field investigations confirmed differential settlement affecting the structure, particularly in the north-eastern corner, consistent with the behaviour of highly reactive, shrink–swell clays previously identified at the site.
The investigation confirmed site conditions associated with expansive clays, aligning with earlier structural and geotechnical assessments. Based on these findings, GT Geotechnical provided clear, construction-focused recommendations to inform the design of an engineered underpinning solution, including piled and cantilever beam systems to mitigate ongoing ground movement and stabilize the structure.
This work forms part of a broader remediation program and provides Banana Shire Council and the design team with a robust geotechnical basis to progress detailed design and construction with confidence.
